tonality

pretty poor photo of a recent oil painting i did. there’s a light shining down on the wet paint, hence the glare. i was experimenting with tonality and working within one family of color. i actually had wanted to try something in gray but i didn’t clean my brushes well so when i mixed anything with white it came out brown so i just went with it.

this is done on a  24″x18″ sheet of canvas with 3 brushes and a metal thinga-ma-bobber to “draw” the grasses. the paints were mixing white, brown, green, red, and yellow paint. mediums were linseed oil, varnish, and turpenoid. rain and water is suggested via a highly controlled and directed brushstroke. the clouds were done with paper towel generously donated by the public bathroom.
